Thoughtful and Modern Design
Halliday Clark Architects have over 30 years’ experience combining design excellence with thoughtful, practical solutions to create outstanding spaces to live, work and socialise.
From their studio in Ilkley, West Yorkshire, Halliday Clark operate throughout the UK, delivering tailored Architectural proposals across a diverse range of sectors including residential, commercial, and institutional buildings. From small-scale renovations to large-scale developments, they approach each project with the same level of dedication and attention to detail.
When the founding Directors retired in 2022, Richard Walsh and Emily Dickinson took on the mantle. Emily specialises in Social Housing Developments and was the lead architect for Ilkley’s Cinema, while Richard plays a central role in the design of Architecturally sensitive planning permissions and listed building redevelopments.
“Architects don’t just design buildings, they foster relationships, understand their clients’ needs and manage a myriad of details to bring visions to life by combining creativity, strategic planning, and meticulous execution. We are driven by the craft of making things and our success is measured by delivering outstanding designs whilst ensuring they are feasible, sustainable, and aligned with our clients’ goals.”
Their residential portfolio spans from remodelling existing dwellings to the planning and design of new bespoke homes. ‘Sirius’, a stunning newbuild made from chestnut cladding with a sedum living rooftop received the ‘New Design Award 2024’ from Ilkley’s Civic Society and reflects their design philosophy, versatility, and ability to create homes that resonate with their clients’ aspirations.
Another notable project for Halliday Clark which is connected to the Bradford City of Culture programme, sees the restoration of Bradford Arts Centre (Kala Sangam) in the heart of the city.
“The major renovation of St Peter’s House will transform this Grade II listed building into a fully accessible, state-of-the-art centre. A new entrance foyer with feature staircase will be created, along with a 170-capacity theatre, five dance studios and a permanent home for Bradford Community Broadcasting (BCB) radio. Having worked on the project since its inception, we are thrilled to be on site and look forward to the building re-opening in 2025.””
Halliday Clark create spaces that inspire and enhance the lives of the people who use them. Their friendly collaborative approach, coupled with a committed to sustainability means they integrate sustainable design principles such as passive design strategies and renewable materials to produce buildings that are beautiful and environmentally responsible.
“We’re fortunate our clients share our commitment to environmental targets, especially within the social housing sector where fuel poverty is an ongoing issue. Maximising what can be achieved, within tight budget constraints, is a part of the job I love. Sometimes the smallest interventions we propose have the biggest impact for those using the building.”
Halliday Clark were delighted to receive the Yorkshire Prestige Award for ‘Residential Architecture Firm of the Year 24’ and the practice stands proud of their reputation for presenting high-quality designs with exceptional client service and applaud the team’s passion for architecture and their drive to strive for excellence.
