Halliday Clark ‘Highly Commended’ in this year’s LABC Building Excellence Awards

LABC Regional Highly Commended Award for Best Individual New Home & Best Medium Volume New Housing Development

Halliday Clark is pleased to announce that two projects completed in 2023 have been highly commended at the LABC Yorkshire Building Excellence Awards 2024. The LABC Building Excellence Awards are the largest business to business awards in the building control sector in the UK and we are thrilled to have been recognised.

The Spinney, Ilkley Best Individual New Home

The existing dwelling was poorly positioned in the darkest corner of the site, with the internal spaces equally failing to make use of the light and views available on this site. The new residential dwelling places the key internal spaces in the optimum areas of the site, and takes the vehicle access and parking around the western side. The materials used throughout the build include smooth ashlar stone, which offers a contrast against the handmade long format clay bricks, and carefully detailed zinc trims complement and complete the main apexes. The project was built by C & AJ Marshall Builders with accompanied work by SGM Structural Design and ecologist, Smeeden Foreman.

The Spool House, Headingley Best Medium Volume New Housing Development - 6 to 30 units

The Spool House is part of Pickard Properties £40m private rental development scheme, Spinning Acres, in Far Headingley. The newest residential property in this scheme features a mix of 12 one-and-two-bedroom apartments. The Spool House, which has been built by local contractor Dobson Construction, is the fourth phase of Pickard Properties’ ambitious six-acre regeneration property. The future-proofed, all-electric building has roof-installed solar panels, while the apartments are fitted with radiators containing a natural stone core, which prolongs the heat created to transfer it efficiently around the property. We are delighted with the LABC recognition of this project, which was governed by particular sensitivity to the Headingly conservation area. The final result demonstrates how a well-coordinated design can result in delightful places to live in a manner that safeguards people’s safety, health and wellbeing, promoting sustainability and contributing positively to the environment. The traditional detailing of the building has only been successful due to the commitment to use high quality materials. As a family business, Pickard Properties has a reputation for creating high quality developments within the city and is fully aware of the responsibility in executing a design in this location and to this design.
— Richard Walsh | Director
I firmly believe that one of the best ways to see more good work is to praise building excellence and publicly acknowledge companies, designers, site managers and trades people who go the extra mile because of the pride they have in their work.
— Lorna Stimpson | LABC
