Drighlington Methodist Church, Bradford
Extension
New Build
Ecclesiastical
Refurbishment
The project vision was to develop a community space which provides opportunities for growth as the Church connects and responds to community needs. The concept: to ensure that the existing main hall is unaffected and that clear routes of circulation are achieved, allowing each space to be accessed without passing through another. A glazed link is introduced as a shop window to 'coffee pot' and the building as a whole.
The link building connecting the Hall with the Church creates a large welcoming level threshold entrance and gives clear routes of circulation through the building. The glazed element extending the existing ‘Coffee Pot’ gives the activities within greater visibility to the surrounding community.
The adjoining link includes meeting rooms, a kitchen which can be accessed from both sides and new bifold doors which open the cafe into the main hall. The ceiling tiles have been removed from the hall to expose the high ceilings and dark timber trusses, part of the original build. There has also been an addition of a staircase up to another meeting room with WC and catering facilities as well as eaves storage.
